Pipeline Risk and Forecast Reviews
Bring the next step into the forecast discussion.
Read deal age, ownership and activity alongside forecast context, then assign the work that needs attention.

The business situation
The forecast has a number. The deal still needs a next step.
A large opportunity can dominate the review while its last activity gets older and its next step remains unclear. The sales leader needs to examine that assumption with the rep before relying on the projected result.
Bring stage, value, timing and recorded activity into the same discussion. Keep an estimate of exposure separate from a prediction that a deal will be lost.
Which deals need closer review before we rely on the forecast?
- Sales leader
- Sets the review period and challenges unsupported assumptions.
- Opportunity owner
- Checks the customer conversation and confirms the next action.
- CRO or finance partner
- Uses the reviewed forecast with its remaining uncertainty visible.
A worked example / Three product views
Inspect the deal before changing the forecast story.
The Pipeline and Forecast captures use different selected reporting periods. They demonstrate the review controls; align the scope in your own review before comparing totals.
- 01 / INSPECT THE OPPORTUNITIES
Find the record behind the headline.
Open Pipeline and review the stage distribution and larger opportunities. Use the available stale, uncontacted or needs-follow-up filters to focus the conversation.
Inspect the relevant deal context and ask the owner what supports its stage and expected timing. A missing next step or older activity tells the team where to look; it does not establish that the customer has disengaged.
Between the screensThe leader opens the relevant opportunity and checks the assumption with its owner. CRM changes require the appropriate authorized workflow.

Product view · Sample data Use deal context and the selected period alongside the totals. Weighted value is an estimate based on the available pipeline; it is not committed revenue. - 02 / REVIEW THE ASSUMPTION
Read target readiness with the risk signals.
Open Forecast to inspect projected revenue, the weighted forecast, configured target and stale-opportunity count. Check whether the period and target configuration match the decision the leadership team is making.
The current forecast uses deterministic calculations from the available CRM data. Review those inputs before changing expectations; neither a risk amount nor a target gap is a guaranteed result.
Between the screensAgree any revised assumption with the deal owner, then make the permitted source update separately. Recheck the forecast when refreshed source data is available.

Product view · Sample data This view is set to This Quarter, while the Pipeline example uses Last 30 days. Align the date range before comparing them. The forecast is a calculation, not an AI prediction. - 03 / ASSIGN THE CHECK
Turn “follow up” into a specific request.
Give the rep a concrete action: confirm the customer’s next meeting, validate a timing assumption or check which decision is outstanding. Record the context, owner and due date in the authorized CRM or Action Center.
The task list shows a separately prepared discovery follow-up alongside other owned work. It demonstrates assignment and status, not a task generated automatically from one of the displayed pipeline deals.
Between the screensA person creates the task and later records the response. Task completion is not the same as a stage change or a closed opportunity.

Product view · Sample data The discovery follow-up is an example of an owned request. It is not linked in this sample to the opportunities in the Pipeline capture and remains incomplete.
The human decision
Separate the deal question from the forecast decision.
First decide what needs confirmation from the opportunity owner or customer. Then decide whether the available evidence supports the current forecast assumption. If it does not, state what is unresolved rather than substituting an optimistic or pessimistic guess.
A forecast discussion with traceable assumptions.
- Reviewed assumption
- The stage, timing or next step the team has checked.
- Owned request
- A specific customer or record check assigned to the appropriate rep.
- Decision context
- A note of the remaining uncertainty for the leadership review.
Follow the outcome
Revisit the record after the next customer signal.
Check the source update, refreshed pipeline and comparable forecast period. Review whether the next step happened and whether the assumption changed. Recorded activity supports the discussion; it does not guarantee a deal will close or explain every change in the forecast.
Supporting capabilities
The tools behind this workflow.
Before you begin
Practical questions about this workflow.
Is the forecast an AI prediction?
The verified view uses deterministic calculations from CRM inputs and configured targets. Review its scope and assumptions; the weighted forecast is not a promise of revenue.
Does the app repair the CRM automatically?
Data-quality and attention signals help identify records to inspect. Do not treat the presence of a warning or task as proof of an automatic CRM correction.
Your team’s next review
Bring a forecast assumption that needs a closer look.
We’ll inspect the deal context, reporting window and follow-up needed to make the next forecast review more useful.
